Columbia County deputies say they responded after a 911 caller said they heard a dog crying, unattended in a vehicle around 5:57 p.m.

The 911 caller said they had seen a couple leave a few hours before, authorities say.
Deputies say when they first arrived they saw a medium-sized dog inside a cage in the back compartment of the car, and ‘appeared to be in distress.’
Officials say the vehicle was not turned on, and it was 86 degrees outside of the vehicle when they arrived.

The dog appeared to be breathing heavily, and its condition began to deteriorate rapidly and began to convulse, according to authorities.

Deputies say at that time they broke into the window and were able to rescue the dog.

Once inside, deputies say they observed the cage and the dog were both covered in feces, urine and other fluids.
Deputies described the dog as ‘emaciated to where you could see its rib cage and hip bones.’

After rescuing the dog, deputies say they smelled a strong smell of decomposition.

Deputies then found three cats in a separate cage, two being deceased and the third was barely moving, according to authorities. Authorities say they were able to remove the living cat.
Before rescuing the dog, deputies were about to contact the suspect, Ivey Redman, 25. She said she would be able to return to the scene shortly, according to authorities.
Once both animals were safely removed, a man and woman arrived at the scene, deputies say.

According to authorities, Redman stated, “I can explain,’ and confirmed the animals did belong to her.

While in the patrol car, she stated she had been evicted from her apartment and living out of the vehicle with her animals, authorities say.

She said she left the animals in the vehicle to go ask her friend about finding a home for her and the animals, authorities say.
Redman was arrested on Sunday and charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, and two counts of cruelty to animals, according to jail records.

Hopefully this cat survived.
