An Amber Alert remains active for 2-year-old Wynter Smith, who has been missing since the late hours of July 2. It is alleged that the child was kidnapped by 26-year-old Rashad Malik Trice, who is the ex-boyfriend of Winter’s mother, from a home in Lansing.

According to the family, sometime early Monday, Trice reportedly stabbed the child’s mother, threatened to harm the child, and took off in her car -- a 2013 white Chevrolet Impala.

Trice, who has ties to Detroit, ended up in Metro Detroit early Monday morning. He was seen driving throughout the area, including in Detroit, Hamtramck and St. Clair Shores.
He was found in St. Clair Shores and ultimately crashed the vehicle after a short police chase on Monday morning. Police announced at 5:50 a.m. on July 3 that Trice was taken into police custody.

The man is not cooperating with investigators, however, and the missing 2-year-old girl was not with him when he was caught. Local and federal law enforcement are still searching for the toddler.

Officials say Trice was seen driving throughout the Detroit area between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Monday. It is unknown where the child may be.

A body believed to be missing 2-year-old Wynter Cole Smith has been found on the city's east side Wednesday according to Lansing police and FBI investigators.
The body was located in an alley near a house.
FBI Acting Special Agent Devin Kowalski gave a briefing near the scene where Smith's body was found.
"At approximately 6:50 p.m. this evening, the body of Wynter Cole Smith was recovered by FBI agents, this is not the outcome that we were hoping for," he said. "And our hearts go out to Wynter's family. Based on information developed through this investigation, our teams were searching multiple areas across the state over and over again, and specifically in the area adjacent to where we are standing."
Smith has been missing since the early morning hours of July 3 when an Amber Alert was issued following the sexual assault and home invasion of her mother in Lansing.
"I am deeply saddened to report the search for Wynter Cole Smith has come to an end," said Lansing Police Chief Ellery Sosebee. "At approximately 6:50 p.m. a federal search team in Detroit located Wynter's body near the Coleman A. Young Airport. This case has moved to a missing child to a homicide investigation. I want to remind everyone that this is an open investigation and I will not comment on specifics at this time.
"This is not the outcome anyone hoped for. But I promise law enforcement will see the family gets the justice that they so deserve."
The suspect, Rashad Trice, 26, was arraigned on Wednesday on several charges including criminal sexual conduct, home invasion, unlawful imprisonment, and domestic violence – among other charges.
Investigators said the toddler was taken by Trice, her mom's ex-boyfriend, after he stabbed her. He then fled to Metro Detroit with Wynter, prompting an AMBER Alert and was eventually arrested in St. Clair Shores.

The death penalty has been constitutionally banned in Michigan since 1963. :banghead:

Officials believe Wynter Cole Smith was killed with a pink cellphone charging cord that was found on her body days after the Amber Alert.
A charging document accuses Rashad Maleek Trice, 26, of Detroit, of abducting Wynter after he stabbed and sexually assaulted her mother, Trice’s ex-girlfriend.

The charging document includes pictures showing parts of a pink cord inside the stolen Impala. Officials said they believe Wynter was strangled to death with that cord.
“(Wynter’s) cause of death appeared to be strangulation with a pink cellphone charging cord that was recovered with the body,” the document reads. “The pink cellphone charging cord was consistent with the pink cord parts recovered from the Chevrolet Impala. A medical examiner’s final report of the cause of death is still pending.”

Wynter Cole-Smith's killer, Rashad Trice, has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend's two year-old daughter, leading to her death. He faces life in prison and will be sentenced in July.

The grinning lunatic strangled this innocent little girl to death with a pink phone cord.
