As officers in Illinois looked for the owner of a dog abandoned at a Burger King, they soon realized the heartbreaking story of why the dog was left behind.
Police in Monee, a southern suburb of Chicago, said their hearts were broken when a resident found the dog on Monday, Feb. 27. According to the South Suburban Humane Society, he had been tied outside a Burger King restaurant.
The “sweet doggy” had a note attached to his collar that read, “I’m King. I’m a good boy. Love to hug & kiss.”
And police agreed, saying in a Facebook post that “he really does love to hug and kiss you too.”
Officers searched for King’s owner, and she came forward with her reasoning for why the dog was abandoned.
“After suffering a major medical event, she had moved in with family and has been trying to get back on her feet,” the humane society said. “Her family member abandoned King without her knowledge and she is devastated.”
